On February 14th, 2018, 17 students and staff members were shot dead at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by a former student. Among those killed was Meadow Pollack – after being shot, Meadow crawled through the hallway to protect another student, a freshman. She laid her body on top of the other student, who had not yet been shot, in an attempt to protect her. Ultimately, the shooter returned, shooting bullets that went through Meadow and the student beneath her, killing both of them.
Our family started #MeadowsMovement to honor the memory and life of Meadow. Our current project is the building of a safe and beautiful playground in South Florida, where people can go to remember Meadow and enjoy their lives.
Ever since she was a young girl, Meadow Pollack’s vibrant smile was contagious to all those around her. Being the only girl of three children, Meadow quickly became recognized as the princess of the family. Throughout her life, Meadow was known to always be the friend someone could depend on, always smiling and bringing happiness into the atmosphere surrounding her.
“Meadow was the definition of a princess, she was the finest, loveliest, tender, and most beautiful person we have ever known and even that is an understatement. As soon as you walked passed her you knew it was Meadow the way she carried herself, the way she smiled, and how she walked with such purpose,” friends Nicole Miciotta and Carley Ogozaly said. “Everyone wanted to be friends with Meadow, people were drawn to her dynamic personality. Meadow was a friend you could always count on, she gave the best advice. She was logical and didn’t sugar coat anything, you knew when you asked Meadow for advice you would always get the truth, she was wise beyond her years. Her personality encompassed so much class.”
Meadow was not only said to be classy and content, but also very driven. Those around her knew that if she put herself up to a challenge, she’d succeed. Meadow’s demeanor was so embodied with love that everyone around her somehow, some way, just gravitated to her. She was said to truly be one of those people who encompassed a beautiful interior along with exterior.
“Meadow was one of a kind, from her looks to her personally she truly shined like a diamond inside and out. Meadow was the most caring outgoing person I knew, there was never a dull moment with her,” boyfriend Brandon Schoengrund said. “She was always the life of the party and her smile could light up a room from a mile away. She loved to learn and better herself everyday. She was so ambitious and strong no one could steer her away from her dreams and goals. From fishing to riding ATVS in the mud, she loved it all. Meadow always loved to explore.”
Princess Meadow will always be in our hearts, our minds, and her smile will never be forgotten. Story by Megan Faberman
